Happiness or money – which improves your quality of life?

happiness

Considering money as one of the biggest reasons to be happy is not a new thing. For ages, this perception has persisted. Since money enables you to lead the desired lifestyle, your interpretation of happiness is this.

Achieving that lifestyle can make you happy for the time being. You can enhance the quality of your lifestyle with money. On the flipside, happiness might not be related to improving your lifestyle.

However, when it comes to achieving a peaceful and content life, your inner happiness will matter the most. The debate between money and happiness will continue, as opinions will always be divided.

Having money does not mean that you can incorporate the desired lifestyle. You should wisely manage money to make the most out of it. There will be inflation, sudden expenses, etc., that need you to be prepared with enough funds in a cash reserve.

Failing to provide the necessary funding can lead to complicated financial situations. When the cash buffer cannot afford unplanned necessities, you can take a different route. There are lenders who can provide loans quickly for bad credit as well.

This means that even if you are stuck with a poor credit mess, you can get a breakthrough in convincing the loan provider. Here, you must note that money-related problems can disturb the peace of your life.

The impact of money and happiness on improving the quality of your life

Ask yourself if more money can make you happy. When you have adequate money to take care of your necessities and emergencies, you can be stress-free. You will feel financially secure, and life might seem perfect.

From this perspective, money can enhance your overall financial well-being. You can work on your way of handling finances and attain a certain level of financial stability. Beyond this, even bigger financial improvements might not make you happier from the inside.

What is the actual meaning of financial security? It is a situation when you:

  • Have created an emergency fund to safeguard against unexpected occurrences
  • Are in a position to disburse bills within the given timeline
  • Have enough resources to manage debt payments smoothly
  • Are comfortably contributing money to financial goals and future
  • Spending money on experiences vs on possessions

Materialistic gains, like buying a new dress, can make you happy when you have wanted it. You will not feel happy with the same intensity if that particular duration is over.

This is an example showing how money can allow you to buy things. However, whether or not you will be happy after that purchase might depend on the timing as well.

Now, in contrast, if you use your money to take part in a hobby class on the weekend, you can experience something different. This will stay with you forever, and you will even feel happy when remembering those moments of creativity.

Again, it could be an unplanned trip for someone who is a travel enthusiast. Here also, money is spent, but not to buy anything material. You will explore a new place, and in this case, money can make you happy from the inside.

This is something you cannot show, but the feeling will remain with you. On the other hand, possessions you can have with money will be visible, but can provide one-time happiness.

The actual aspects of an improved life

Please note that here the main focus is on life and not on lifestyle. Many might get confused and accept a different interpretation of it. The real meaning of an enhanced life is:

Ensuring security over luxury

When you feel that you have enough to manage usual expenses and a safety net in place, it is financial security. This allows you to be relieved and content. This might not be attained even after luxury upgrades.

Choosing time over money

Being able to manage time can result in having time for the fulfilment of personal desires and for near and dear ones. Now, with money, you can buy a ticket for a vacation. However, if you fail to take time out from your busy schedule, all your efforts will go in vain.

Prioritising health over hustle

There is no problem if you want to earn more. Maybe you have some pending bills to clear up. For the time being, you might have to make some adjustments. However, this should not be continued for the long term. Then, you will have to pay the price for compromising your health and wellbeing.

Focusing on purpose over profit

Not always, making a profit should be your aim. Without purpose, your life cannot be meaningful. At times, doing certain things might not result in monetary gain. However, it might have let you fulfil a purpose. Do not weigh success and failure based on material gain.

Aspects that shape happiness beyond the influence of money

You need money for various reasons, and its importance is undeniable. However, there are non-material aspects that can influence your happiness.

Social connections

It might feel great to be an owner of different types of assets other than a house or a car. However, social bonding can make life blissful. You cannot expect to get emotional support from your possessions.

When you spend time nurturing your personal relationships, it can double your happiness. Companionship is something that has nothing to do with money. It depends on the inner circle you choose for your life.

Striking a balance between two things

A balanced state of mind can give you ultimate happiness. You cannot achieve this if you are too ambitious about gaining financial success. Again, only paying attention to the small aspects of life that give you a peaceful feeling might not be justified every time. Therefore, striking a balance between these two scenarios can put you in a better position.

Influence of mindset

Money can partially influence happiness, while your relationship with others can largely affect your state of mind. Above all, the kind of mindset you hold will be important. If you feel grateful for what you have and nurture a positive mindset, external factors cannot influence your happiness.

The bottom line

You should learn how to balance your financial aspirations and personal growth to have a more fulfilling life.
